Nurse anesthetists sing “Waking up is hard to do”

A must view, for the sheer fun and pleasure of it! Thanks to Roberta, for pointing this out to me, and to Not Totally Rad (a radiologist’s blog) for posting it.

The Laryngospasms (the Spasms, for short) are a group of nurse anesthetists who can really sing. More of their music videos are available on their website.

The Spasms wrote up a suspenseful story of how they fared with the TV show America’s Got Talent. (You’ll need to navigate to the blog from the home page to read this. There’s no direct link.)

We got off to a great start, and all was going well. Then Sharon Osbourne buzzed us. Well, the buzzer is not as it appears on television – it is deafening and literally shakes the stage. Well, when she buzzed us, it skipped our soundtrack, so we were out of sequence with the music. Piers and Howie followed not too long thereafter, and we came to stand in the middle of the stage and receive our feedback. …

We have been aware for some time that there is a small percentage of people who find it disturbing that someone in our profession would make light of such serious work, and we suspect that Sharon is one of these folks, as she has had several operations herself, some apparently rather recently.

It must be hard to deal with life and death, day after day, and not allow yourself an occasional moment of black humor to relieve the stress. But I can understand why Sharon Osbourne might feel such moments should be kept private, not broadcast on national TV.
